MEETING WITH MARINE DE QUÉNETAIN: COMMITTED ILLUSTRATOR
Posted by JOD Paris on
Can you introduce yourself?
My name is Marine, I am 36 years old, I am a fashion & beauty illustrator committed to ecology and feminism.
I am based in Paris.
What are the 3 adjectives that could define you?
I am often told that I am gentle. Maybe also creative and joyful.
What are you most proud of?
Having managed to build a family while developing my work as an illustrator.
Female artists with families are rare.
What is the most important value that you would like to pass on to your children or that you radiate around you?
The love of beauty, I try as much as possible to make them aware of beauty. To do beautiful things, to say pretty and kind words, to give compliments, to set their eyes on beauty.
What makes you feel good?
Being in nature barefoot in the sun with my children. Watching them play in the sand, on the swing.
What are the moments you like to share?
with family or friends?
As a family I love our breakfasts in the morning. We take the time to sit down for 30 minutes and listen to music with a great soft playlist on Spotify.
We prepare boiled or scrambled eggs, buttered toast and drink chicory.
What would you like to achieve that is more environmentally friendly?
Consume less material and develop more my spirituality, my energy, my culture.
How do you see yourself in 15 years?
In a large studio bathed in light in the heart of Paris under the roofs surrounded by colors of oil paint, gouache, colored pencils, beautiful paper.

What advice would you give to the person you were 20 years ago?
Trust yourself, listen to your inner voice.
Cultivate yourself as much as possible: read lots of books, go to more exhibitions, go to the theatre, opera, travel...
What is a typical day in your life?
No day is typical, every day is different after this family breakfast.
What makes you beautiful?
It's silly, but loving my loved ones and my work very much, I think that makes me happy.
What is your essential beauty routine?
Inside out hydration and SPF 30 sunscreen minimum every day.
What do you have in your handbag?
My laptop, my Brai makeup bag: containing my JOD heart of stone, a La bonne brosse hairbrush, Ilia makeup, the JOD moisturizing stick, a pocket mirror. Mints. A book to disconnect and not look like a zombie on the subway. My iPad to present my work as an illustrator.
What made you want to start a business?
My parents. They were both entrepreneurs. Seeing them free and happy inspired me a lot. My mother was a stylist. She earned her living by making drawings, I thought that was really cool.
What is your guilty pleasure?
Very dark chocolate. I eat several squares of 85% chocolate a day. The magnesium contained inside has a positive effect on my mood.
What are your plans?
At the moment I am working on several packaging creation projects: 3 advent calendars and the creation of packaging for a cosmetic line. Also on visual creation projects for beauty brands (one English, one Japanese, one Polish) including JOD! I will soon do several live drawings for the Beaumarly group.
As a personal project I am keen to create a series of abstract drawings with vegetable inks or even beetroot juice, turmeric... I feel like experimenting at the moment.
What makes you strong?
To feel loved. I am lucky to be loved very much and respected.
What would you like to change on earth for your children?
In a utopian way, I would like to change the dictators and put in their place humanist women and men who want to work for the good and respect of life.
What is your definition of beauty?
For me, beauty is a whole, a harmony that emerges, the good vibrations that the person or the object sends us. A solar beauty that radiates and elevates us.
What does being natural mean to you?
Listen to your heart. Don't copy others.
Your biggest regret?
Sometimes I keep too much to myself. There are certain things I should have said that would have changed a lot of things.
Your wildest dream?
To become a painter and be able to afford a wooden house in Cap Ferret.
